Constable House transforms a tired 1960s home in Marple Bridge into a confident, contemporary family space. The original asymmetric roof is echoed in a bold rear extension, where a glazed façade opens the house to light, garden, and everyday life.
A crisp linear rooflight traces the meeting of old and new, drawing daylight deep into the plan. Inside, the ground floor is reimagined—opened up and extended into the former garage—to create a series of flexible spaces for living, working, and hosting.
Materiality reflects the original building - cedar cladding, Cedral weatherboarding, and painted brick form a balanced exterior palette, while inside, reclaimed maple flooring and polished concrete bring warmth and texture.
This project succeeds in its restraint—carefully balancing ambition and budget to give new life to an overlooked house, and shaping it into a modern home ready for the way we live now.
