A new entrance to the Industrial Museum has been introduced, creating a vital connection to the new pedestrian route linking the Piece Hall and the town’s new library.
After being closed for a considerable period, the museum is now reopened, driven by the formation of a new trust and the dedication of a knowledgeable and passionate group of volunteers. Their shared ambition is to once again make the building and its fascinating collection accessible for the public to enjoy.
The first phase of this revival focused on supporting the trust with the design and delivery of a new accessible entrance. The scheme responds carefully to a number of constraints, including level changes, the need for a straightforward construction approach, and a tightly controlled budget.
The result is a simple yet purposeful entrance ramp and balustrade. Its design reflects the area’s industrial heritage while also signalling a renewed chapter for the museum.
