Phase 1 June 2016
RIBA Stages 0-7
British Construction Industry Awards Finalist – Cultural Venue
“We have a brilliant new space that has exceeded our expectations, meets our brief and ultimately reflects the ethos and aesthetic of IOU. The process of getting here was highly collaborative, with a firm eye on our future vision whilst keeping a tight grip on our current budget. The response from the public has been overwhelmingly positive and we’re now able to extend our programme to a wider community in a fully accessible space”
Executive Director, IOU Theatre
IOU Theatre are an established International arts organisation who have relocated into Victoria Mill at the Dean Clough Complex. The phased project creates a new permanent gallery and exhibition space within Dean Clough; housing the IOU archive and a changing exhibition programme, as well as a large scale IOU Studio and offices for the company. Our approach has been to maximise the budget by developing inserted elements that are offset from the texture and history of the building fabric; to express the volume and height of the setting and to introduce new contemporary elements, thereby improving comfort, connectivity and accessibility; all embedded with an IOU aesthetic.
The project was a finalist for a British Construction Industry Award – Cultural Category 2018
