“Steve – you’re a superstar. I am speechless. I can’t believe how easy that was. Just amazing! Thankyou”
Private Client
We designed a large two storey extension to a Grade 2 Listed farmhouse, (the former home of David “King” Hartley, head of the Cragg Vale Coiners), in rural Calderdale.
Steve had previously designed the conversion of the barn at Bell House which now forms Coiners Barn, a study centre and walkers b&b focused on the history of Cragg Vale Coiners, in particular their leader, David ‘King’ Hartley who lived there until his capture and hanging for the killing of a government inspector, in 1769.
We were delighted when the clients came back to us to help them extend and remodel the main house to create more room for their growing family but also to maximise links to the wonderful landscape in which the house sits.
Not an easy task to gain approval for a significant two storey extension in green belt and on a listed property, but one which we achieved successfully through a considered design approach and plenty of dialogue with planning and conservation officers to ensure they were ‘on board’. In doing so, we have introduced elements and spaces which feel modern whilst still preserving the character of the original house, removing some poor quality additions from the late 20th Century and adding new elements which allow the history of the property to be read and continue.
The key outcome was some very happy clients who now have a modern family home in a wonderful location.
Further details if you wish to stay at the barn can be found here http://bellhousecoiners.com
